Johnny Tremain never knew his father. His mother, whom he dearly loved, died when he was a youngster. But before she died Johnny's mother made sure that he would grow up to be a fine young man, able to earn a good living. Johnny Tremain was apprenticed to a silversmith in Boston in the mid seventeen seventies. Not only was he a good apprentice... he had promise of being a great silversmith, just like his hero Paul Revere. Johnny just had one problem... he was proud. His pride made him haughty and overconfident. One Sunday, in order to get a job done on time, Johnny broke the "Sabbath" and cast a silver pitcher. It happened so fast nobody could stop it... the crucible cracked and the molten silver poured all over Johnny's hand. It was the beginning of a new life for Johnny. No longer would he be able to work as a silversmith. Who would have ever guessed that this terrible accident would lead to his participation in the birth of a new nation?
