| Reading | All units cover reading comprehension with activities designed to build and strengthen skills such as main idea, cause & effect, sequencing, inferences, drawing conclusions and predicting outcomes. | |||||||||
| Vocabulary & Spelling |
All units encourage the learner to improve spelling skills and increase vocabulary through various activities. Students may either choose words from their daily writing and independent reading or they may use the vocabulary unit included with the curriculum, which uses pre-selected words taken from the unit novel. Additional activities (designed to make the spelling unit more "hands on" may be found in the Teacher's Tips and in the Big Little Spelling Book of Fun, both of which may be purchased separately. | |||||||||
| Creative Writing |
All units provide a wealth of motivating activities designed to make writing enjoyable, thus encouraging the student to write. All types of writing skills and activities covered. Daily writing and weekly editing are strongly emphasized. Practical teacher help may be found in the Teacher's Tips. | |||||||||

All units emphasize critical thinking and teach logic& deductive reasoning through puzzles, analogies, following direction exercises and thinking activities. | |||||||||
